Julho de 2012, enquanto caminhava numa manhã ensolarada e quente de Julho encontrei, juntamente com o César Oliveira, uma enorme lagarta verde que caminhava rapidamente pelo chão. Curiosamente esta lagarta não tentava alcançar um ramo ou uma estrutura acima do solo por onde pudesse subir... ao invés, como que tentava escavar uma depressão no solo, o que por fim acabou por acontecer... Mais tarde em conversa com um amigo, expliquei-lhe este estranho comportamento que nunca tinha observado, ele elucidou-me por me revelar que algumas espécies de borboletas noturnas, as suas lagartas passam o estado de pupa enterradas no solo... a espécie é que nunca consegui identificar...
2012 July , while walking on a hot and sunny July morning, I found along with Cesar Oliveira, a huge green caterpillar who walked quickly across the groundr. Interestingly this caterpillar was not trying to reach a branch or a structure above the ground where it could climb... instead, it tried to dig a depression in the soil, which eventually ended up happening... Later in conversation with a friend, I explained this strange behavior that I had never seen, he elucidated me for revealing that some species of moths, caterpillars spend their pupal state burried into the ground... the species I never was able to identify...
