Some time ago, I met the biggest European continental gorge , the real European "Grand Canyon": Gorges du Verdon.
It was a French River, the Verdon, who excavated the Provençal limestone into a maximum depth in Moustiers-Sainte-Marie, of 700m over a distance of 25km. On the plateau preceding this huge gorge, one can find Mediterranean garrigue a huge oak grove of English (French) Oak Quercus robur with some Beech Fagus sylvatica. The waters of the Verdon are of a intense and overwhelming turquoise . That day, I did many landscape photographs. I took advantange of the total dimension of the space and color. The contrasts between the karstic fácies and vegetation was remarkable. But of everything photographed, the photo that I liked the most was of this little Verdon, also carved in limestone where two lichens, one green the other pink, filled my soul of a Provençal spirit!
